It’s On Us!
During the Fall 2014 semester, Newton Student Government Association (SGA) became involved in the Title IX and sexual assault prevention conversation. While in Washington D.C. attending the American Student Government Association conference, then Newton SGA president Sri Rajasekaran had the opportunity to meet with Kyle Lierman, associate director for the Office of Public Engagement at the White House. Lierman coordinates outreach on education issues and leads the It’s On Us sexual assault prevention campaign for the White House.
As a result of that meeting and further education on the topic, Newton SGA has taken on sexual assault prevention as a major campus initiative. A take the pledge drive was held on campus on November 20, 2014 where over 100 students, faculty and staff participated in taking a stand against sexual assault.
During a college wide SGA meeting held at the Newton campus on November 21, 2014, It’s On Us, a promotional video featuring student leaders from all five Perimeter campuses, was taped by Perimeter College’s photographer and videographer, Bill Roa, and edited by then Newton SGA president Sri Rajasekaran.
